Flat River Indivisible "Save Our Rural Hospitals"

What an absolutely fabulous turnout we had at our very first event - It far exceeded our expectations! We had a little over two dozen participants show up to help us bring awareness regarding the possible Medicaid and Medicare cuts that would affect our local rural hospital, University of Michigan Health-Sparrow in Carson City, Michigan this past Friday, June 20th. We partnered with Saugatuck Douglas Area Indivisible group to organize this event.

The lady pictured above in the golf cart is local resident Agnes McKenna who turned 100 years old this last March. She stayed for almost the entire 2 hours of the Rally!

And here's a video of the Rally. Erin, with the Saugatuck Douglas Indivisible shot the video!

About this event

The 2025 tax policy debate has started and what happens in Washington will play out here in Michigan at our rural hospital level.

Congressional Republicans’ top policy priority is extending and expanding President Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. To do so, they’ll need to either run up trillions in additional debt, or enact deep and harmful cuts to vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP. They’re likely to do both.

Your voice matters! Let’s send a clear message: Our rural hospitals are vital to many Michigan areas and we will not stand by and let the Republican agenda destroy our local healthcare.

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
